In celebration of Veterans Day, Olympic Gold Medalist Kristi Yamaguchi and her family discover their family history. Seven great-grandchildren participated in a session with NVN to learn about their great-grandfather’s service in the United States Army in World War II.
NextGen Series with National Museum of the U.S. Army
The National Veterans Network launched NVN NextGen: A conversational virtual series where the next generation of Japanese Americans learn about their World War II heritage through historical objects. This first 20-minute episode features three high schoolers from across the United States discussing George Sakato’s helmet with Paul Morando, Chief of Exhibits at the National Museum of the United States Army. Throughout their conversation, the students delve into George Sakato’s story and ask questions to better understand the struggles of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Throughout their conversation, the students delve into Gary Uchida’s story and ask questions to better understand the significance of this bag and Gary Uchida’s service during World War II.

Throughout their conversation, the students learn about Terry’s story and ask questions to better understand the significance of Terry’s service during WWII and why soldiers wore dog tags.
