Comcast to Sponsor National Veterans Network High School Video Contest
Winning student will receive a prize package that includes a trip to Washington D.C.
WASHINGTON DC (December 5, 2019) – Global media and technology leader Comcast Corporation will sponsor a National Veterans Network (NVN) national video contest that encourages high school students to study the stories of Japanese American WWII soldiers. Comcast will award the winning student and one family member a trip the National Museum of the United States Army, including airfare and travel accommodations in Washington DC/Virginia.
The contest, which will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Army Museum opening in 2020, seeks videos from high school students to share the impact of a Japanese American WWII Soldier story on their personal lives. The winner of the contest will be invited to an event at the National Museum of the United States Army, where they will be able to meet living veterans, their families and see an exhibit with artifacts from WWII Soldiers donated by veterans and families.
“We’re excited to have Comcast help us encourage high school students in the United States study the stories of young Japanese American Soldiers who fought for our country in World War II,” said Christine Sato-Yamazaki, executive director at NVN. “The videos will highlight the bravery, patriotism and perseverance of these soldiers, many of whom were just teenagers, and describe the impact the stories have on the lives of the students.”
Students are to select the story of a Nisei Soldier, either from the Nisei Soldier Congressional Gold Medal Smithsonian Digital Exhibition (http://cgm.smithsonianapa.org/index.html) or a personal acquaintance, and create a video, no longer than 4 minutes, to describe the impact of the soldier’s story on their life today. The deadline for submission is January 31, 2020.
