2026 SUMMER INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Social Media Intern

The National Veterans Network (NVN) is looking for an intern to join our team this summer and help us grow our social media presence and brand image. We are a passionate and distinguished group of nonprofit, governmental and business leaders who are deeply committed to sharing the story of the Japanese American (Nisei) WWII soldier experience. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the research and communication team in the creation and implementation of our online marketing and communications plans that will help educate, advocate and inform a national audience on the Japanese American WWII Nisei soldiers’ extraordinary service in order to promote justice and equality.

Specifically, the intern will help coordinate and execute our digital media strategy, working across key channels including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. This role is considered instrumental in establishing and increasing visibility for the NVN’s brand amongst its core constituencies and demographics and will provide the successful candidate with invaluable hands-on experience.

Position: Social Media Intern

Period: May– September 2026

Location: Remote

Preferred region: California

Hours: 10-15 hours a week

Hourly rate: $19.61

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Understand and appropriately promote the vision and mission of the NVN
  • Grow the number of followers across all NVN communication channels with a particular focus on Facebook to reach core constituencies and Instagram to reach a younger demographic
  • Work with communication team to design, approve and post content across social media accounts and email news that is compelling, relevant and engaging
  • Establish and implement an active and sustainable content schedule
  • Monitor engagement across social media platforms; promptly respond and interact with followers
  • Track and report website statistics and social media analytics against established targets and goals on a monthly basis

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • The intern will be required to learn about the mission and programs of the NVN including sessions to learn about the history of the Japanese American WWII experience
  • The intern may be required to participate in community outreach events

Education and/or Experience

  • Education: Undergraduate student in Communications, Graphic Communication, Marketing, or recent college graduate interested in a nonprofit career in graphic communications and marketing.   
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, positive demeanor and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Key Qualifications:

  • Prior social media management preferred
  • Graphic design experience preferred  
  • Strong interest in Japanese American/Asian American history preferred
  • Strong analytical, and creative thinking skills as well as reliability, sound judgement and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate well with others
  • Baseline skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Adobe inDesign,Canva, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Google Docs

Work Environment

  • Intern must have his/her own laptop and be available to assist with select events.
  • Remote candidates can work out of their home or college residency
